Kokoro Pendant

A hand-sculpted heart that resists the symmetry of traditional jewelry. It is a weightier, more permanent expression of the kokoro - the Japanese concept that unifies the heart, mind, and spirit into a single center.

The Tradition of Mitsuro Hikime

The Tradition of Mitsuro Hikime

Mitsuro Hikime is a traditional Japanese jewelry-making technique involving a soft wax composed of beeswax and pine resin. By carefully warming and pulling the wax, the artist creates a distinct, pleated texture known as hikime (drawn lines).

Because the wax is sculpted while soft and pliable, it captures organic, fluid shapes that are impossible to achieve through traditional Western carving. Once the desired form is reached, the wax is cast into precious metal, preserving the delicate, ribboning ridges in solid gold.
